Analogies to Mythic Narratives

Text of excerpt, if available

Every one of us is rightfully concerned about the Corona virus. But imagine if there was a foreign army camped right outside of Cleveland, ready to invade at any moment. Well, when the Psalm was written, there were nearly 200,000 Assyrian soldiers camped, right outside of Jerusalem, mocking the people of God. Now, understandably, the people were terrified. And so was King Hezekiah. So Hezekiah threw himself before God begged for his deliverance. And the next day, the prophet Isaiah told Hezekiah. God has heard your prayer and that God would defend the city that night. An angel of the Lord went out and put to death. The 185,000 men in the Assyrian camp decimated the Assyrian army withdrew back to Nineveh. Now, how is it that the Lord defends his people? The Psalm says he simply lifts his voice. It's the word of God that brings about peace. It's God's word that breaks the bow and shatters the spear that makes Wars to cease. God just speaks. And the armies around us fold. Likewise, it's the word of God that brings us true peace in our lives.
