Emergency Ruling in Regard to Livestreaming Services
Description
In response to the request sent out by the Rabbinical Assembly to its membership for covid related documents, attached is a responsum I wrote for my community on March 14, 2020. I distributed it at the time to the New Jersey region of the Rabbinical Assembly as I was then the regional president. It was also distributed in Europe to students and alumni of the Abraham Geiger College (where I teach adjunct) and to students of the Zacharias Frankel College (where I teach adjunct) and to any other colleagues who requested it of me. Biographical information as per your request: I am 47 years old, am the rabbi of a A-size Conservative congregation in northern New Jersey (Temple Israel in Ridgewood). I am married with two teenage children. I am an RA member, and currently serve as president of the North Jersey Board of Rabbis. BA from Wesleyan (1994). Rabbinic ordination from JTS (1999). PhD in modern European history from CUNY Graduate Center (2010). I am currently a member of the CJLS (and former secretary and Responsa editor) but was on the CJLS when I wrote the attached responsum.
