Today, I want to share with you some background on the practice of spiritual communion, the tradition once better known, but little publicized in the present age or frequent reception of Holy communion, st. Thomas Aquinas speaks of it in the 13th century, describing spiritual communion as an ardent desire to receive Jesus in the most Holy sacrament and lovingly embrace him at a time or in circumstances when we cannot receive him in sacramental communion.
