Fear
Text of excerpt, if available
So anxiety and fear on one side is rooted in covetousness or desire. And in the middle is a parable about what a man treasures money, the good life. And so his entire lifestyle is shaped by anxiety rooted in covetousness. That means he preserves what he treasures by stockpiling as much of this earth goods he possibly can. What is the fear of a hypocrite? Because that's the particular sin. Jesus is going to address with his disciples. As he looks at the Pharisees and says their hypocrisy is leaven. It's like Eastern DOE. You're not aware of it, but it makes its way throughout the entire church. And he speaks probably to the 12 here because in Matthew 10, the parallel of this exact same event, same teaching is he's addressing the 12 apostles and other disciples that might've been present. And then the masses they're all around the disciples.
