R4: Either/Or presented, “false dichotomy”
Text of excerpt, if available
Let them then suffer according to the will of God. Now the will of God, that phrase in scripture, as you know, can mean one of two things. First, it can mean the will of command. That is God has with his choice. What he wants something for us to do. Paul would use that phrase. And first Fessel Indians, chapter four, when he would say for this is the will of God. Even your sanctification that you abstain from fornication, what's the will of command for your life. That you be pure, positively, negatively abstain from fornication. That is the will of command. That's what this phrase could mean, but there's another way it's used in Bible. What we call the will of decree that is God's will of decree his purpose, his plan that he carries out by his own Providence, Ephesians one verse 11, it's used there, or a portion of that phrase, having predestinated us, according to him, according to the purpose of him who works all things after the counsel of his own will him.
