Coronavirus Hits Kosher Community Hard
New York…A kashrus authority scheduled to visit several factories in Italy suddenly found that a
good many were closed and could not give him access. Although the kosher community says that
most of the products produced overseas for Passover have by now reached their destinations, there
are still some that are facing shortages. “The full impact may only be known as we get closer to
Passover,” said one distributor. Rabbi Moshe Elefant, COO of the Orthodox Union, says that the
Coronavirus is definitely having an impact on his mashgichim who supervise kashrus in 99
countries. Many kosher companies scheduled to exhibit at ExpoWest learned that the show had been cancelled. For Betterine, a
company that launched a natural and healthy butter, the cancellation of the show could not have come at a worst time.
