Privacy policy
This website does not accept contributions from persons under 13 years of age. All contributors must declare that they are at least 13 years old in order to make a contribution.
This website collects the following information from users who make contributions.

The name and email address of the user. This information is gathered in order to validate submissions. We may follow up with users in order to check information or inquire about intellectual property rights. The user’s name and email address will not be displayed on the website, nor will they be shared with third parties outside of RRCHNM for any purpose other than research. These names and email addresses will be a part of the record created by this site, and may be shared or preserved for research purposes in the future.

The name or pseudonym to be publicly displayed (optional). We will only display your name with your contribution if you instruct us to do so on the contribution form.

Descriptions, documents, and other files uploaded by the user. This information will be publicly displayed if the user agrees to the term of service. If the user does not agree to the terms of service, these materials will not be publicly displayed, but they may be retained in our database.
This website uses the Matomo analytics platform, which may gather the information listed here about visitors. This information is stored on RRCHNM’s servers, and it will never be shared with any third party. This information is used solely to understand how people are using this website.
Terms of contribution
These terms describe the agreement between the user and the Roy Rosenzweig Center for History and New Media when a contribution is made to this website.
A user who submits materials to this website and who agrees to the terms of contribution and terms of service agrees to the following:

That he or she gives permission to store the contribution on the servers of RRCHNM and George Mason University indefinitely.

That he or she gives permission to publicly display the contribution on this website.

That he or she gives permission to preserve the contribution, including the identifying information collected at the time of submission. RRCHNM may at its discretion turn over these materials, including the identifying information, to a third party for the purpose of long-term preservation and use by researchers.

That he or she is at least 13 years of age.

That he or she agrees to the privacy policy.

That he or she is not violating any intellectual property rights by submitting these materials.

That he or she is not violating the privacy rights of third parties that might be described or depicted in my contribution, and that he or she will not publish their image without their explicit consent.
RRCHNM is under no obligation to store, preserve, or publish any materials submitted to the site. Such publication and preservation is solely at the discretion of RRCHNM, and materials may be deleted, or stored and not published, for any reason.
If a user submits materials but does not agree to the terms of contribution, RRCHNM will store but not publicly display the materials. RRCHNM will make a reasonable effort to clarify with the user who submitted the materials why he or she submitted the contribution but did not agree to the terms of contribution. Contributions will not be deleted until after that reasonable period.
Terms of use of this collection
Collection and display of materials by RRCHNM. The Roy Rosenzweig Center for History and New Media is making every reasonable effort to ensure that materials that are submitted to this website do not violate the intellectual property rights of the creators of the content submitted and that they do not violate the privacy rights of any individuals depicted or described in these materials. When constructing a publicly sourced digital archive, we are not always able to identify intellectual property questions or adjudicate all possible privacy concerns. We welcome any such information from contributors or visitors to this site. We will correct any information or remove materials from public access upon being informed of any copyright, intellectual property, or privacy violations.
Use of these materials by other researchers. The Roy Rosenzweig Center for History and New Media does not hold the copyright to the materials submitted to the Pandemic Religion collection. It is the responsibility of any researcher or other user making use of this collection to obtain permission from the publishing party when making use of the included materials. The Roy Rosenzweig Center for History and New Media makes no warranty or representation that any reproduction, distribution, performance, display, preparation of derivative works, or usage of the material here under is or will be free from infringement of the rights of third parties. By making use of this collection, a researcher or other user agrees to accepts full responsibility and agrees to indemnify the Roy Rosenzweig Center for History and New Media and George Mason University, its officers, employees, and agents from and against all claims made by any person asserting that his or her copyright protection has been infringed upon.
Content of this collection. Because the content of the collections comes from people and/or groups with varying opinions and different world views, the collections may contain information that might be deemed offensive, disturbing, pornographic, racist, sexist, triggering, misleading, fraudulent, or otherwise objectionable. The Roy Rosenzweig Center for History and New Media does not endorse or sponsor any content in the Pandemic Religion collection, nor does it guarantee or warrant that the content available in the collections is accurate, complete, noninfringing, or legally accessible in your jurisdiction.
Hate speech and other offensive content. The Roy Rosenzweig Center for History and New Media will not knowingly make publicly available any materials that it deems to be hate speech on the part of the user or institution who submitted it. However, the COVID-19 pandemic has led to numerous instances of racist or antisemitic hate speech or acts of violence. These instances are an important part of the historical record to be studied by scholars. Therefore, RRCHNM may at its discretion publish on this website reports (as opposed to acts) of hate speech or other offensive content. And RRCHM may at its discretion preserve but not publicize instances of hate speech in its database.
